 | 08:10 pm - Light rail, arrows, no slings Yesterday was the grand opening of the light rail in Phoenix. Liking trains as I do, I of course showed up for the first rides. Very crowded (90,000 people rode yesterday) but fairly smooth running. A good stress test of the system. It'll be good for going to Tempe for the arts festival and Westercon. Less good for plays at Tempe Little Theater since they have moved over to the new arts center over on Rio Salado, which may or may not be a reasonable walk/scoot from the light rail. I was in line in front of three ladies travelling together, one in a wheelchair, and there was no problem at all boarding and getting her chair into position, so we'll be able to take the scooter places. Maybe we'll take the train to the Star Trek exhibit at the Science Center.
Went to archery today and came oh so close to getting a "spider", which is our local nickname for the X at the exact center of the target. If you hit two legs of the X, you get minor bragging rights and a little badge. Have decided I'm not performing at Ren Fair, so that frees up time and energy to go to Estrella War instead, where I'll be shooting archery. I'm pulling my armor together, as tacnuke is gently reminding me ("Pat that's GREAT! Get your armor together!!!!") that I could go be on his siege engine crew. Spent a bit of time this afternoon trying armor on and determining what needs to be repaired. Also took inventory so when I go to Tandy's later this week I don't buy any more fasteners: I have plenty of copper rivets.
I like being on siege crew almost as much as I like building the armor. So that'll be fun even if all I do at war is target archery.
